Square 4: Blooming Granny

I just finished up my 4th sqare Blooming Granny and I'm about to start on my 5th, though I still need to go back and add more rows to my Maggie Square.

I decided my bed made a nice enough background for it.  It also looks as if I'm leaning towards an all blue/green color schemes for these first few squares except my first one.  But really it's just that I only have 8 colors of yarn total, and some of them just look ridiculous together.  I'm almost out of lime green and teal so it looks like I'll be going yarn shopping in the next few days!

Today I also got my very own copy of Twinkie Chan's Crochet Goodies for Fashion Foodies in the Mail!! I can't wait to start making scarves shaped like cupcakes and toast!

A Square A Day In May: Kata Square

I finally finished my second square. I had final exams last week and I got behind... really behind. ;) So now I'm playing catch up.
Here's my Kata Square. I really love the way the navy and the teal yarn look together.  It also turned out significantly less wavy than my first square.  I'm super happy about that.

My parent's new dog Joe was quite taken with my ball of lime green yarn, he thought it was a toy for him.  My dad had to rescue it for me.

I've begun my Maggie's Square, but I haven't finished my last few rows on it yet.  I think I'm going to add rows in between working on my other squares so I won't get a tired of it.

It's May!

A Square a Day in May started today, and I'm super excited about my first square! I've never crocheted anything from a written pattern so it was fun.  I think it turned out well even if it isn't 100% correct.

This was also my first flower! I'm very enamored with the color combination.  My roommate didn't believe me that this would become a square, she thought it looked more like a coaster.

Final Exam Avoidance

So I went home this weekend for the last time before final exams, and I'm not ready for this semester to end.  So instead of working on my 10 page paper and french presentation I was rearranging my room to fit all of the stuff I'll be bringing back from my dorm room and making this collage!

I made the whale for a presentation in high school and it's been in my art folder ever since. I found it when I was going through my closet and wanted to put it on my wall but didn't have anything to go up with it, and hence this collage began.  Nothing is glued down though, so when I'm tired of it my frame will once again be repurposed.  Before I made this the frame held movie tickets.

I also started crocheting circles to start making my first afghan.  I fell in love with the Fairy Tale Blanket on Le monde de Sucrette's blog and I'm currently working on one of my own.  I don't have nearly enough colors of yarn at the moment because I only recently started crocheting in earnest but I hope to rectify that soon.

First Completed Project Ever

So when I decided to sign up for my crafting class I wanted to ensure that I was actually capable of completing a project, any project, so I set out to make a hat.  I ended up following several patterns at once and watching a lot of crocheting videos on YouTube.  I was so excited when my it actually started to look similar to a hat.

So I kept working...

and it turned out I forgot to count my stitches pretty much at all which is important, so it seemed like my hat was going to be a bit big. But, I figured out how to reduce and finally managed to finish my very first hat ever. And I'm super proud of it, even if it has a larger than necessary hole in the top and it's not winter.

Hello World

So this is my first endeavor in blogging so here goes nothing.  I recently signed up for an honors crafting class for the fall 2011 semester that's about the history of handcrafting.  I've decided to use it as a reason to finally get my but in gear and actually complete all of the crafting projects I've ever wanted to do.  Over the course of the summer I'm supposed to learn to knit or crochet.  I personally only have the most basic of crocheting skills.  My grandmother attempted to teach me, but since I'm left handed a few things got lost in translation.  I've decided not only to learn both knitting and crocheting this summer but to attempt to finish at least one project every other week untill classes start in the fall, so wish me luck!
